Apr\u00e8s la lib\u00e9ration de la Gr\u00e8ce et la mise en place de l\u2019\u00c9tat grec, les \u00eeles Ioniennes a exig\u00e9 leur unification avec la Gr\u00e8ce. En d\u00e9pit de sa forte objection, la Grande-Bretagne-ensemble avec la France et la Russie ont sign\u00e9 le 5e de June1863 le trait\u00e9 de Londres, selon laquelle la Grande-Bretagne a renonc\u00e9 \u00e0 son r\u00f4le en tant que protecteur des \u00eeles Ioniennes. Le 21 mai 1864, la r\u00e9unification des \u00eeles Ioniennes avec la Gr\u00e8ce est devenue officielle. A Corfou, Ao\u00fbt est le mois pour les f\u00eates de village ou panigyri en grec. A pan\u00e9gyrie (grec ancien: \u03c0\u03b1\u03bd\u03ae\u03b3\u03c5\u03c1\u03b9\u03c2, \u00abrassemblement\u00bb), est un g\u00e9n\u00e9ral grec ancien, l\u2019Assembl\u00e9e nationale ou religieuse. Chacun a \u00e9t\u00e9 consacr\u00e9e \u00e0 l\u2019adoration d\u2019un dieu particulier. Il est \u00e9galement associ\u00e9 avec des jours de saints et les festivals des saints ces jours-ci. Chaque semaine, il y a plusieurs festivals en cours \u00e0 travers l\u2019\u00eele, certains plus grands que les autres. Chaque village c\u00e9l\u00e8bre la Saint dont l\u2019\u00e9glise locale est nomm\u00e9 d\u2019apr\u00e8s. Les c\u00e9l\u00e9brations commencent par un service de l\u2019\u00e9glise, et sont suivies d\u2019un festival avec la musique grecque et de la danse traditionnelle, beaucoup de souvlaki (et retsina!)
